EventCentralBDO seminar: Carbon credit trading
Introduction
In recent years, carbon credit trading has gained momentum as a crucial strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As businesses and governments worldwide strive to meet ambitious climate goals, understanding this market is not just beneficial — it's essential.
During our 45-minute presentation, we will begin by defining what carbon credit trading is and its purpose in the global context. Carbon credits are certificates that represent the right to emit a specific amount of carbon dioxide, and they play a central role in cap-and-trade systems designed to limit overall emissions. We will explore how these credits fit into international agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, highlighting their significance in shaping global climate policy.
Next, we will delve into the mechanics of the carbon market. Understanding how carbon credits are created is crucial; they originate from projects that actively reduce, avoid, or sequester emissions—think renewable energy initiatives and reforestation efforts. We will discuss the processes involved in buying and selling these credits, including how companies can purchase them to offset their emissions. Additionally, we will examine the various regulatory frameworks governing carbon trading across different regions, focusing on both compliance and voluntary markets.
Engage in dialogue
Following the presentation, we’ll have a 30-minute panel discussion featuring experts from various sectors. This is your chance to dive deeper into the subject, ask questions, and share your thoughts on how carbon trading can impact your industry.
